Schuster Atlas of Gastrointestinal Motility Review
The field of motility continues to evolve rapidly. The 33 chapters contained in Schuster Atlas of Gastrointestinal Motility in Health and Disease, Second Edition, have an expanded scope both in depth and breadth from the first edition. This text includes more information in areas covered by the first edition, as well as new discoveries in previously unexplored areas. In keeping with the traditional concept of an atlas, this text focuses on descriptions of techniques using graphic pictorial tracings to illustrate diagnostic and therapeutic applications of motility studies in clinical disorders. Schuster Atlas of Gastrointestinal Motility in Health and Disease, Second Edition, is organ-centered and is divided into two major parts. The first part deals with basic physiology of the gastrointestinal tract with an emphasis on neural and smooth muscle physiology. In the second part, each chapter within seven separate sections, begins with a description of normal physiology and recording techniques for a specific organ, followed by a clinical discussion of the pathophysiology and motility tests pertinent to that particular organ system. This book is intended to help health care providers further their appreciation and understanding of gastrointestinal motility and its disorders, enhance their diagnostic accuracy and thereby improve the treatment of patients with motility disorders of the digestive tract.
